Bachelor of Science in Education
USF St. Petersburg’s Bachelor of Science in Education prepares students to excel as effective, compassionate K–12 educators. This 68-credit hour hybrid program allows graduates to earn dual certification in K–5 Elementary Education and K–12 Exceptional Student Education, along with Reading and ESOL endorsements. Small class sizes, personalized instruction, and hands-on experience ensure graduates are confident, classroom-ready professionals.
What you will learn
Students gain the skills to teach, manage, and inspire diverse classrooms across elementary and exceptional education settings. You’ll learn evidence-based instructional strategies, assessment methods, and inclusive teaching techniques while building a strong foundation in literacy, differentiation, and classroom management.

Career opportunities
Graduates are prepared for roles such as:
- Elementary school teacher
- Exceptional student education (ESE) teacher
- Reading interventionist
- Curriculum or instructional support specialist
- Educational consultant

What to Expect
This cohort-based program blends online and in-person learning with three progressive internships in local schools. Students gain hands-on experience in both elementary and exceptional education classrooms, supported by seminars and mentoring from faculty and partner teachers. The program culminates with a final internship and portfolio, preparing students for Florida teacher certification and professional success.

What makes this program very unique is that you’re double certified. So, you will be certified in elementary education and special education. If you’re kind of unsure of what route you want to take, this is a perfect place to be because you will have opportunities everywhere.
