Marketing
Marketing Major
Marketing is a dynamic field with many dimensions, including strategic planning, market research, market segmentation and targeting, brand positioning, product development and management, distribution, pricing, marketing communications, sales, and customer relationship management. As the revenue-generating and customer-facing function of the firm, marketing poses many challenges and yields generous rewards for those who meet these challenges. Marketing operations are carried out domestically and internationally in all business organizations that offer a good or service. This includes non-profit organizations such as governmental, educational, and healthcare institutions, as well as charitable and political campaigns. Marketing operations provide the most visible links between the firm or institution and its many publics. Marketing deals with people whose needs, wants, and desires are constantly changing; and coupled with these changing tastes is a fiercely competitive environment sustained by all the resources of rapidly evolving technologies.
At USF, marketing majors select one of two concentrations. The Market Development concentration prepares students for entry-level jobs in account management, business development, marketing promotions, field marketing, and more generalized marketing positions. The Digital Marketing & Analytics concentration prepares students for more specialized and analytical jobs in marketing such as digital marketing, consumer insights, market research, and marketing analytics positions. Professionals from either track can advance with experience and/or graduate degrees to more senior and expansive roles in marketing and brand management.
