Reserach Interests
Dr. Narang's research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning and hardware
design. Specific topics include:
(1) Design of advanced computing systems using emerging technologies (e.g., compute-in-memory,
silicon photonics)
(2) Machine learning for hardware design
(3) Design for reliability in advanced packaging
Biography
Dr. Narang received his PhD in Computer Engineering from Washington State University (WSU) in 2025, advised by Prof Partha Pande and Prof Jana Doppa. Prior to his PhD, Dr. Narang gained six years of industry experience. He worked as a Design Engineer II at Synopsys (2018–2021), and as a Senior Design Engineer at STMicroelectronics (2015–2018). His professional expertise includes digital logic design and synthesis. Dr. Narang holds an M.Tech degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from IIIT Delhi, earned in 2015.
Research
We develop machine learning (ML)-based methodologies for the design of advanced computing systems using emerging technologies to enable energy-efficient, high-performance, and reliable inference and training of emerging ML models.
Our research program aims to solve the full range of problems to design the next generation of advanced computing systems, from edge devices and mobile platforms to high-performance computing (HPC) in servers and data centers for AI workloads. Our research focuses on cross-layer hardware and software co-design spanning across applications, advanced packaging, and architecture – synergistically combining the strengths of ML and emerging compute technologies.
