In collaboration with USF Recreation and Wellness, we are excited to offer two swim programs designed to build water confidence, foundational swimming skills, and water safety. The USF Parent & Child Swim program, recommended for ages 6 months–2 years, provides a fun and supportive environment where parents or guardians participate alongside their child. Guided by certified USF swim instructors, young swimmers develop comfort in the water through activities focused on water acclimation, floating, breath control, safe water entry and exit, and other introductory swimming skills.
For older children, the USF Learn to Swim program, recommended for ages 3–7, provides progressive, skill-based instruction in a structured and supportive environment. Through small-group instruction, children build skills in water safety, floating, kicking, breath control, front and back crawl fundamentals, treading water, and independent swimming. Where are the USF Swim Programs located?
The USF Swim Programs take place at the USF Recreation and Wellness Center, conveniently located on the USF Tampa campus next to the Yuengling Center. The facility's address is 12301 USF Genshaft Dr, Tampa, FL 33620.
Who are the instructors, and what are their qualifications?
Swim Instructors have certifications in the following, Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with First Aid.
What safety measures are in place during the lesson?
In addition to having certified instructors, lifeguards are present to supervise all swim classes, ensuring an extra layer of safety and peace of mind.
Where can I park during the lesson?
USF parking permits are required at all times to park on campus. During registration, you have the option to purchase a 4-day parking pass for $10. Alternatively, you can use the ParkMobile app to pay for daily parking at the Yuengling Center lot.
What happens if my child misses a lesson?
We do not offer make-up classes for missed lessons. Due to the unique progression of each lesson and the need to maintain the proper child-to-instructor ratio, we cannot add your child to another class for a make-up lesson. This ensures that all participants receive adequate time and attention from their instructor. Please keep this in mind when registering for sessions.
Will weather affect my child's swim lessons?
All lessons are held in the indoor Rec Center pool and are only impacted by severe tropical weather, such as tropical storms, hurricanes, or tornado warnings. Unlike pools with outdoor pump rooms, our pump room is located inside the Rec Center, ensuring it is safe and unaffected by typical weather conditions.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
If you need to cancel or transfer a camp registration, please email youthxp@usf.edu.
Cancellations or transfer requests received at least 15 business days prior to the camp start date will be eligible for a refund or transfer to another available camp, minus any administrative or processing fees. Cancellations or transfer requests received within 15 business days of the camp start date are not eligible for a refund or transfer. No refunds will be issued after a camp has begun, regardless of the number of days attended or participation level. No refunds will be issued if a participant is dismissed from camp due to a violation of the camp’s conduct policy or code of behavior.
We make every effort to run all camps exactly as scheduled. In the unlikely event it becomes necessary to cancel, postpone, or combine camps, or change a camp location, you will be notified by email or phone. Please ensure your contact information is up to date. If USF cancels a camp, you will receive a full refund. If USF reschedules a camp, you will have the option to receive a full refund or transfer to the new session.
