Accelerating USF’s momentum as we start the 2025 fall semester

Dear faculty and staff,

As fall classes get underway today, I am delighted to welcome you to a new academic year at the ×îÐÂÌìÃÀ´«Ã½! This is such an exciting time to be on our campuses; as student activity ramps up, there’s a renewed sense of energy and we embrace fresh opportunities to achieve success.

This fall, we will keep pushing forward on our bold pursuit of excellence that has fueled our rise to become a top-ranked, preeminent, ×îÐÂÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ member university. I’m proud to say that we continue to shatter records, achieve milestones faster than many thought was possible and expand our impact. People are taking notice and the interest in being part of Bulls Nation has never been higher.

For summer/fall 2025, I am thrilled to announce that we received the most applications ever from first-time-in-college students. With more than 71,000 applications, we saw an increase of nearly 5% over last year. We are also on track to have a record-setting academic profile for this fall’s incoming class of students, which we look forward to telling you more about in the coming weeks.

Our newest class of more than 130 medical students carries an average MCAT score of 520 – among the top 3% nationwide – a reflection of our ranking as the No. 1 medical school in Florida and in the highest tier nationwide, according to U.S. News & World Report.

We are also pleased to welcome more than 200 new faculty members who are joining our current group of world-class scholars. Many of the talented, accomplished faculty we are welcoming to Tampa Bay come to us from fellow AAU institutions and other highly regarded universities – a sign that ×îÐÂÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ is a destination for academic and research excellence.

And we recently that USF set new fundraising records last fiscal year, including an all-time high of over $184 million in philanthropic support. We received gifts from more than 59,700 generous donors – our most ever in a single year and a powerful vote of confidence in our mission and vision.

But we aren’t stopping there. We are strategically adding new academic programs, support services and on-campus experiences for our students.

August is also a good time to remind everyone about hurricane season, which runs through Nov. 30. The USF Hurricane Guide is a helpful place to start as you review your personal plan, talk to your supervisor about how your department will respond and faculty members can review academic plans and resources provided by the provost's office.

We have many reasons to be optimistic about USF’s future. I invite you to stay connected with me on and , where I regularly post highlights from across our university.

I wish you all a wonderful start to the semester. Go Bulls!

Sincerely,

Rhea F. Law
President
