Faculty

The faculty for the Summer 2027 Program will be announced in spring 2027, but the majority of the faculty below will be returning for 2027. 

(Director, USF Dance in Paris Programs; Professor, 最新天美传媒) is an internationally recognized choreographer and dance teacher who has enjoyed a long creative and cultural association with France. He holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Washington, and a B.A. from Bates College. Michael has received numerous recognitions for his work in the Arts including a William J. Fulbright scholarship from the United States government for his research and teaching in Mexico with Delfos Danza Contempor脿nea, a Kennedy Center/American Theater Festival Award, and he was the Ruth Page Visiting Artist at Harvard University. In 2019, he received the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters鈥� 鈥淎rtistic Achievement Award.鈥�  His own work has been commissioned by over 25 different dance companies in 10 countries, and he has worked with a diverse range of artists and institutions  including Cirque du Soleil, the Bates Dance Festival, DanzAbierta in Havana, the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle Dance Theatre Workshop in NYC, Centro Danza Mimma Testa in Rome, Trinity College in Dublin, and Balettakademien in Stockholm, among many others. He created the first USF Dance in Paris Program in 2007, and since then, has welcomed over 400 students to study in Paris. 

(Co-Director, Dance in Paris Summer Program; Professor, Barnard College) is a New York based choreographer and performing artist.  She began her professional career with the Miami Ballet and went on to work with renowned contemporary choreographers such as The Kevin Wynn Collection, Nina Wiener Dance Company, Donald Byrd/The Group, Bebe Miller Dance Company, and Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company among others. In 1997 a creative collaboration with Bill Young evolved into a company focused on rigorous physicality and dynamic partnering. Their work has been seen throughout the U.S, Europe, Asia, and South America. Now interested in focusing on illuminating her vision of contemporary work, Colleen formed Colleen Thomas Dance and has presented her work in Hong Kong, Estonia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, and Russia and in New York at Joyce Soho, Danspace Project, DTW, Dance New Amsterdam, The Miller Theater, Danny K. Playhouse, and The Kumble Arts Center, as well as at Cal State Long Beach, East Carolina University, and Minneapolis at the Ritz Theater, Southern Theater, and The New Guthrie.  Colleen is the co-director and a co-curator of the LIT series at 100 Grand. LIT supports the presentation of innovative work in an up-close and personal setting.  The series showcases works by emerging artists who are bringing fresh ideas to the form, as well as established artists who are experimenting with new directions.  She received her MFA in Dance from University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Colleen has been teaching improvisation and co-directing the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2010.   

(Ballet and Cunningham technique) trained in classical dance at the Conservatory of Paris before joining the Conservatoire National Sup茅rieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) in contemporary dance. In 2005, she obtained her certificate, receiving high honors for her performance in the duet L鈥橢au Vive, choreographed by Christine Bastin. In the CNSMDP鈥檚 Junior Ballet, she toured in works by Paco Decina, Karin Waehner, Pedro Pauwels, and Herv茅 Robbe. A one-year stay at UC Irvine allowed her to participate in Yvonne Rainer鈥檚 workshops. She has worked with various contemporary choreographers, notably Jean-Claude Gallotta, Luc Petton, Marie-Laure Agrapart, Dance Theater Luxembourg, and Bill Young Dance Ccompany in New York. She was a member of the CNDC Angers company directed by Robert Swinston from 2013 鈥� 2020 with whom she danced in various repertory  pieces by Merce Cunningham in France and the US.  Anna has collaborated with visual artist Gr茅goire Schaller on site specific museum performances, and created her first evening length piece (Les Inaccoutum茅s) at the M茅nagerie de Verre festival.  Anna graduated with a Master鈥檚 degree in Modern Literature at Sorbonne University and in Public Affairs at Sciences Po Paris. Anna is also a dance writer and co-founder of CCCdanse. Anna has been teaching for the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2017. 

(Contemporary) began dancing in his hometown of Lourdes, France at the age of six. After earning a Masters degree in Law in Toulouse, concurrently with his studies in dance at National Choreographic Center of Grenoble, Desplantez eventually turned to dancing and choreographing full-time earning top honors at choreographic competitions around Europe. He has danced in the work of choreographers Jean-Claude Gulotta, Nathalie Pubellier, Caroline Bo and Corinne Lanselle. Julien has received choreographic commissions throughout Europe, as well as in Chile, Cuba, Russia and Canada, and is a sought-after teacher who regularly conducts major workshops throughout Europe, including the headlining faculty member at the annual Festival de Danse 脿 Lourdes. He formed his own company QUETEM () in 2008.  Julien has been teaching with the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2015.  

(Yoga) has been the owner and director of in Paris since its inception in 2001, Michelle has been practicing yoga since 1993. She received her initial through advanced teacher鈥檚 training from the Hatha Integral Yoga Institute founded by Sri Swami Satchidananda. Professionally trained in classical and contemporary dance, Michelle has danced and performed for over 30 years, teaching dance since 1987 and yoga since 2000. A student of anatomy and kinesiology at UCLA, upon graduation she continued her studies in New York. Michelle has also studied pre and postnatal child development and is a recent graduate in yoga therapy from l鈥橧nstitut de Yoga Th茅rapie which is headed by Doctor Lionel Coudron. She teaches and travels abroad leading yoga retreats to beautiful locations. Influenced by her Vipassana meditation practice, Michelle鈥檚 Hatha yoga classes accentuate fluidity in movement and breath traversing traditional and dynamic styles of Hatha. She has been teaching with the USF Dance in Paris Programs since the first program in 2007. 

(Contemporary) is a native of Kenya and holds an M.F.A. in dance choreography and performance from Temple University. She began her dance training in Kenya, East Africa and later studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, American Dance Festival and Philadanco. As a performer, Kamuyu has toured nationally and internationally with world-renowned choreographer Jawole Willa Jo Zollar/Urban Bush Women. She has also worked with choreographers Molissa Fenley, Sean Curran, Marlies Yearby, Nathan Trice/RITUALS, Tania Isaac, and Dean Moss. She was an original cast member in Julie Taymor鈥檚 Broadway musical, The Lion King at Th茅芒tre Mogador, Paris for three years. Immediately followed by a successful run of Bill T. Jones鈥� FELA! at the Royal National Theater where she was an original cast member, Kamuyu served in the roles of Staff Choreographer, Dance Captain and Universal Swing. She is also the Artistic Director of WKcollective, where she creates and tours her own work at several well-respected venues for dance and theater throughout the world. She has been teaching with the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2015. 

(Choreography) is an Australian choreographer known for her rigorous, concept-driven works that merge somatic intelligence with philosophical inquiry. Her practice explores the sensorial body informed by her training in Release Technique, Alexander Technique, Klein Technique, Martial Arts, Butoh, Budo, Tai Chi, Hip-hop, Ballet, and Improvisation. Her unique and ever-evolving choreographic language draws inspiration from sensory ecology, neurodiversity, feminist theory, and biomimicry. A former dancer with William Forsythe鈥檚 Ballet Frankfurt and The Forsythe Company, Lang鈥檚 choreographic work is grounded in physical intelligence and innovation. Her creations unfold through interdisciplinary collaboration, durational research, and the development of performances and films for the stage, museums, galleries, and site-specific contexts. She approaches choreography as both critical inquiry and aesthetic exploration, informed by environmental ethics, feminist politics, and neurodiverse perspectives. Lang鈥檚 work has been presented at major institutions including Tate Modern (London), Th茅芒tre de Chaillot (Paris), Festival Faits d鈥橦iver, Rencontres Chor茅graphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis, Maison Rouge, Mains d鈥櫯抲vres (France), Tanzplattform Deutschland, HAU (Berlin), Mousonturm (Frankfurt), Tanzhaus NRW (D眉sseldorf), STUK (Belgium), Les Halles de Schaerbeek (Brussels), Transart (Italy), Kalamata Festival (Greece), REDCAT (Los Angeles), and in Australia at NGV Triennial, Carriageworks, Adelaide Festival, Arts Centre Melbourne, Dancehouse, and Dance Massive. 

(Ballet) graduated with a degree in Ballet from the Conservatoire National Sup茅rieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. She danced for the Ballet Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence (Italy), the Grand Th茅芒tre of Limoges (France) and as a soloist with Francois Mauduit's company. Since July 2011 she's been a freelance dancer and assistant choreographer with Company M茅galithe. Lefaucheux holds the French National degree in teaching classical ballet. She teaches at the W.A. Mozart Conservatory in Paris (CMA Centre) and the Regional Conservatory in Paris. She is also a coach for professional dancers and has received specialized training in functional anatomy and musculoskeletal pathology (Concept Corporis Fabrica庐). She has been teaching with the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2017. 

(Dance for Parkinsons) received his BFA from NYU/Tisch School of the Arts, and has danced with the companies of Joy Kellman, Maya Carroll, Melanie Lane, Johannes Wieland, Yann Lheureux, Eun Me Ahn, Brian Brooks Moving Company, Cie Scalene, Cie Epiderme and Christoph Winkler. He has been based in Europe since 2002 and his choreographic work has been presented at the MoDaFe Festival in Seoul, the Rohkunstbau Festival Berlin, Tanzim August Berlin, Biennale de la Danse OFF Lyon, Cabaret Inestable Valencia, Format  Ardeche, Institut Francaise Alexandria Egypt, Festspielhaus St. P枚lten, Globalize Cologne, Theater Freiburg and at the St盲dtische B眉hne Heidelberg. An in-demand teacher, Lutes has taught classes and workshops for DOCK11 Berlin, (artist in residence from 2005 to 2010), Marameo Berlin, CND Lyon, Le Pacifique CDC Grenoble, CCN Grenoble, CCN Rillieux-la-Pape, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Sasha Waltz & Guests Berlin, Australian Dance Theatre, Suwon University Seoul, Kookmin University Seoul, and the Seoul School of Performing Arts.  He has been teaching with the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2015. 

(Yoga Flow and Nidra) is an American performer and choreographer. After beginning her dance training in Portland, Maine, she went on to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction in Dance in 2019 from the University of Iowa. She has studied at the 最新天美传媒鈥檚 Dance Semester in Paris Program, the SHARE intensive, Bates Dance Festival鈥檚 Professional Training Program, and the American Dance Festival鈥檚 6 Week School.  As a student, Flannery performed in works by Monica Bill Barnes, Tori Lawrence, Melinda Myers, Jennifer Kayle, Jane Comfort, and Company, among others. Her performance experiences have led her to perform on stage, on film, and in site-specific environments. Flannery has worked on a series of dance and film collaborations while living between the United States, Paris, France, and Brazil.  

(Floor technique) trained in contemporary dance at the Balleteatro professional school in Porto and then at the CNDC school in Angers under the direction of Robert Swinston. In parallel to his training, he took part in several choreographic projects as a dancer-performer with Emmanuelle Huynh, Victor Hugo Pontes, Marco da Silva Ferreira and Cyril Viallon. Since 2017, he has collaborated with Herv茅 Robbe, Filipe Louren莽o, Christine Hassid, Helder Seabra, Christophe Garcia and the KALE company. More recently he joined the artistic team of the CCN of Tours directed by Thomas Lebrun. In 2023, Jos茅 joined the BurnOut Company for the creation of the show In Situ. 

(Game-based Styles) is a dancer, director, choreographer, educator and writer raised by New Mexican skies. She created and directed the Atlas V produced Virtual Reality experience Collective Body, commissioned by Lincoln Center and co-produced by Onnasis Onx and her company, Body of Ways. Alongside Gordon, she co-directed Rave-L Party, a multimedia chamber orchestra performance and rave party for the Th茅芒tre du Ch芒telet, commissioned by l'Ensemble les Apaches. She choreographed Street Art, a concert relating the music of Steve Reich with the French street art of parkour, as well as La Petite Danseuse, an Augmented Reality experience for the Mus茅e d鈥橭rsay, and Danse, Danse, Danse - Matisse, a VR experience for the Paris Museum of Modern Art, both produced by Lucid Realities and directed by Gordon. As a performer, Sarah tours internationally with cirque artist Yoann Bourgeois. She has danced in commercial videos ranging from fashion to public service, including at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards with Harry Styles. Sarah also dances with Compagnie 47-49, directed by Fran莽ois Veyrunes. In NYC, she performed works by George Balanchine, Merce Cunningham, Richard Isaac, Larry Keigwin, Claudia Schreier and Colleen Thomas-Young. Sarah uses written language to translate and expand on movement languages. She has written for the Aspen Institute, Pam Tanowitz Dance, the Vail Daily, and the Vail Dance Festival Magazine, where she served as chief editor in 2017. In New York, she held positions at major cultural institutions including the Movement Lab at Barnard College of Columbia University the Aspen Institute Arts Program, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Vail Dance Festival, and as assistant to Damian Woetzel. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Dance from Barnard College of Columbia University. Her dance training ranges from the Boston Ballet and LINES Ballet to professional intensives with Batsheva鈥檚 Ohad Naharin and the Merce Cunningham Trust. She is a member of Onassis ONX, an accelerator for a global community of member artists who create immersive XR and AI works. In 2025, she founded Body of Ways, a flexible and collaborative company through which she explores how embodied experience can engage with contemporary technological transformations. An alum of the Dance in Paris Programs, Sarah has been teaching with the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2023. 

(Dances of Mali and the Ivory Coast) is a native of Ivory Coast and has had a rich and diverse career as a performer, singer, dance maker and teacher. He has toured world-wide performing with the renowned Ivory Coast based Ballet National Kot茅ba and Bouake; was the principle role, Isma毛l, (singer/dancer) for the Royal National Theater production of choreographer Bill T. Jones鈥� Broadway musical, FELA!; was a select performing artist for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, USA; and at a private event by L鈥橭r茅al for the honorable Prince of Monaco, Albert II celebrating art from the continent of Africa. Sylla鈥檚 choreographic experience includes the Ivory Coast National Television Station (TCI); celebrated artists Amadou and Mariam, C茅saria Evora, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Bocana Maiga and Oumaou Sangare and for the 2006 inauguration of the Museum Quai Branly (France). He was the assistant choreographer for George Momboye Dance Company (Paris, France) with whom he was also a performer. As a master teacher of Mali, Guin茅e and Ivory Coast traditional dances and contemporary Ivory Coast dance forms, Coup茅 D茅cal茅, Sylla has taught extensively in France as well as Uruguay, Chile, Germany, Switzerland, Mali, Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast. Alongside his dance career, Sylla is also a musician with two albums of work, 脟a D茅pend and Aventurier. Sylla has been teaching with the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2017. 

(House) is one of France鈥檚 most prominent house dance instructors and freestylers 鈥� one of the OG鈥檚 of House dancing France. In the mid-1990s, he found his style in bboying and joined the group Traffic 2 Styles in Cergy, which would later become a dance company. He went on to become a dancer and choreographer for groups and companies such as Franck 2 Louise, Section C, Queenstep, Prophenomen, and MouVMaTiK. In the late 1990s, he turned professional and discovered the so-called 鈥渃ommercial鈥� dance scene, which led him to dance in the musicals The Ten Commandments, Gladiators, Bagdad Caf茅, and Cleopatra, as well as for numerous artists (MC Solaar, Amel Bent, Anis, etc.) and TV shows (Hit Machine, Star Academy, Incroyable Talent, etc.). Sharxxx is a versatile and experienced dancer; his career path is eclectic, spanning dance battles, choreography, and commercial dance, and his style draws on all his years of experience in hip-hop, house, and b-boying. To date, he has co-founded the MouVMaTiK collective with Philippe 鈥淧hyss,鈥� which focuses primarily on teaching and choreography. Since 2014, Sharxxx has been a house dance instructor at the CFDC (Cergy Dance Training Center) for the ON2H Cultural Mediator training program, at Flowdance Academy Paris, and Cin茅danse Academy, and he teaches regular open classes at Lax Studio in Paris. 
 
(Ballet) joined Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) in contemporary dance in 2003. In 2009, he obtained his Certificate of Interpretation with honors. During his training he performed works by Angelin Preljocaj, Anna Sokolow, Alwin Nikola茂s, Paul Taylor, Christine Bastin, Jean-Claude Gallotta, Dominique Bagouet, Dominique Boivin, Daniel Larrieu and toured Europe with the Junior Ballet. He then went to Germany to the Folkwang Hochschule to perfect himself in the method Jooss-Leeder (used and made famous by the choreographer Pina Bausch), style and philosophy with Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal dancers. He studied with Dominique Mercy, Malou Airaudo, Lutz F枚rster, Stephan Brinkann, Susanne Linke, JoAnn Endicott, B茅n茅dicte Billiet, Cristiana Morganti. He performed in two creations by Leandro Kees and F茅lix B眉rkle and created a personal solo. As a dancer, he has worked for the Company Beau Geste (director Dominique Boivin), several events, danced for Jo毛lle Bouvier and danced the musical Carousel at the Theatre du Ch芒telet. He was part of the company at CNDC Angers (director Robert Swinston) to rework repertoire pieces by Merce Cunnignham and part of the ensemble of the Folkwang TanzStudio (repertoire of Reinhild Hoffmann, Malou Airaudo and Stephan Brinkmann). He toured in Marocco, Japan, Montenegro, France, England, United States of America, Germany, Belgium. He has danced on some Operas in Capitole of Toulouse, in Royal Opera of Wallonie (Belgium) and at the Paris Opera. As a teacher, Lucas has taught in schools in France and abroad (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Israel, Hungary, England, Taiwan, Australia, Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, Sweden), for the Paris Opera School, the San Francisco Ballet School, the English National Ballet School, the Basel Theater, the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT1), the Ballet Preljocaj and Bolsho茂 dancers, the Cullberg, the Vlaanderen Ballet鈥� He also participated in the National Superior Music and Dance Conservatory of Paris for the training of pianists who plays for dance classes. He graduated in master of Laban notation with honors. Following commissions he choreographed for one of the soloists of the StaatsBallet Berlin (direction Vladimir Malakhov), for students of the Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan, for the French Ministry of Culture, for the Ecole de Danse Contemporaine de Montr茅al. In 2020, he is a laureate of the 鈥淩茅sidences Sur Mesure鈥� of the French Institute and he is supported in 2021 by the Foundation Cl茅o Thiberge-Edrom. 
 
(Ballet and Forsythe Technique) is a Swiss-Brazilian choreographer and dancer who is now based in Paris. She joined the Geneva Junior Ballet in 2001 and continued her training within the European D.A.N.C.E program, directed by William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor, Angelin Preljocaj and Fre虂de虂ric Flamand. She has then danced with various choreographers, including Prue Lang, Vanessa Le Mat, Ioannis Mandafounis and Aoife McAtamney, and she joined The Forsythe Company in 2008. She began choreographing at an early stage in her career, creating pieces both for the stage and for museum spaces, with a cross-disciplinary approach to choreography. Based in Frankfurt between 2007 and 2014, Vallon set up her first company, Envy&P., and, alongside her artistic activity, she worked on setting up infrastructures for the development of the choreographic field. Until the end of 2013, she was co-director of these various projects before moving to France, where she obtained a Master鈥檚 degree in Visual Studies and worked as a curator in contemporary art before joining the K622 鈥� Mie虂 Coquempot company as a performer in 2016. In addition to her artistic activity, Vallon has been working for several years with structures such as the Centre National de la Danse, where she teaches ballet and various composition and improvisation techniques. Today, Vallon continues to explore her creative activity, focusing on collaborations with other artists and the cross-fertilization of disciplines, with music playing a central role in her approach. She also pays particular attention to the role of women in the dance world. Her new company, As Soon As Possible, which was created in 2019, is based in Paris. Nina has been teaching with the USF Dance in Paris Programs since 2023.
