Russell Clayton is an associate professor of instruction in the School of Management and serves as the associate academic director of the USF Center for Executive and Leadership Education. In the MBA program, he teaches courses focused on managerial communication, organizational behavior, and emotional intelligence.
A recognized expert in his field, Clayton’s insights have been featured in premier practitioner outlets, including the Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review.
His commitment to high-impact instruction is reflected in several recent honors. He was twice voted Executive MBA Professor of the Year by the Executive MBA students (2025-2026 and 2021-2022) and is a recipient of the Excellence in Global Teaching and Learning Award from USF World (2026). Additionally, he was awarded the Muma Outstanding Teaching Award in spring 2023.
Clayton earned his PhD in business administration with a minor in psychology from the University of Mississippi and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Auburn University.
