You must apply for graduation regardless of whether or not you plan to participate in Commencement. In order to ensure that your name appears in the Commencement brochure, you must apply on or before the priority graduation deadline date. Graduation applications submitted by the on-time deadline date will be included in the preliminary certification review conducted by college certifiers. Certification of degrees begin once final grades are posted and can take up to 6 weeks.

Information regarding name on the diploma:

  • It is recommended that your diploma name match your legal name, however you may enter a preferred/chosen name on the diploma.
  • For international students who need an Apostille or notarized diploma, your full legal name must be used. This is necessary for future Third-Party verifications that may take place.
  • Neither titles nor degrees previously earned will be included as part of a graduate鈥檚 name on a diploma.
  • If you elect to change your diploma name back to a legal name after graduation, you will be required to pay for a replacement diploma.
  • You may email graduation@usf.edu from your USF email address to add a middle initial or middle name, suffixes, accents, or punctuations, or to update your diploma address.

Applying for two degrees:

Undergraduate students who signed a contract to complete two degrees and all international students approved to pursue two graduate degrees cannot apply for one degree without the other. Even if the requirements for one have been met, both degrees must be requested in the same term. A separate application is required for each degree. If you are pursuing two majors, you may also have to submit two graduate applications.

You are responsible for checking with your College for additional graduation requirements and any earlier application deadlines they may require.

Please note: Your honors GPA may be different than the GPA you see in Student Self-Service and Degree Works as there are specific requirements which must be met in order to qualify for institutional honors at graduation. Consult with your college advising team for additional questions related to graduating with honors.

Participation in Commencement requires RSVP, which can be done after you officially apply for graduation. See the Commencement tab for more information and visit the official Commencement webpage for additional information and ceremony dates.

If you need to update your diploma address, please complete the Diploma Address Change Request and send to graduation@usf.edu. The diploma address cannot be updated at Commencement.

Upon the conferral of your degree, your diploma will be issued once any outstanding financial obligations or administrative holds have been resolved. To ensure the timely receipt of your diploma, we recommend addressing these matters prior to graduation. Please see Holds to learn more about holds that prevent transcript release.
