Founded in 2019, the 最新天美传媒 Police Department (USFPD) was the first university police agency in Florida to start a Police Therapy K-9 program. Recognizing the changing needs of a diverse campus community, Chief Chris Daniel launched the program to help with crisis intervention and community involvement.

Thanks to generous donors, the program started with one officer and a Therapy K-9鈥攁nd quickly made a twofold impact. The K-9 served as an invaluable resource during crisis situations and became a beloved bridge between USFPD and the campus community. Requests for 鈥淗angouts鈥 and 鈥淒e-Stressor鈥 events grew so popular that an electronic notification system was created to manage them.

In a short time, the program became a signature initiative at USF, reaching thousands of students, staff, and visitors. It gained national recognition, including a feature segment on ESPN sponsored by the AKC, for its contributions to mental health and awareness efforts.
Building on this success, USFPD expanded the program in 2024 with a second Therapy K-9 team. While the department鈥檚 first Therapy K-9 retired in 2025, plans are underway to welcome a new member.

Beyond crisis intervention, Police Therapy K-9s play a crucial role in building trust, transparency, and open communication. They offer a unique way for students, staff, and visitors to connect with officers, helping to strengthen relationships while supporting efforts in crime prevention and personal safety.
