- Tampa Bay continues to attract a growing share of high-income movers, with steady
gains since 2013 and a notable acceleration after 2020. - Migration of individuals earning $75,000 or more rose sharply between 2019 and 2022
before slightly stabilizing in 2023, reflecting post-pandemic relocations of affluent households into Florida metros. - Tampa Bay’s competitive rank improved significantly from the lower-middle tier to
the
upper half of all benchmark regions, nearing Austin and Phoenix by 2023.

About: This indicator measures the number of individuals with annual incomes of $75,000 or more who moved into a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) within the past year. It includes moves from other counties within the same state, from other U.S. states, and from abroad, providing a measure of a region’s ability to attract affluent and skilled residents. Sources: U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey (ACS), Table B07010 – Geographical Mobility in the Past Year by Individual Income in the Past 12 Months (for Population 15 Years and Over), 1-Year Estimates (2013–2023). Data aggregated at the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) level for the 20 benchmark regions in the State of the Region framework.
