2026 E-Insights Report

Executive Summary

This year, the report is not limited to a small, fixed set of regions to compare to the Tampa MSA, as the project is expanding to include a data dashboard that will allow statistical analysis of any region in the U.S. However, all MSAs used in this report are comparable in size and similar regional roles in economic impact, education, industry, and employment. These areas also experience similar pressures in housing, migration, and infrastructure strain. Peer regions are selected based on data availability, relevance, and indicator-specific considerations. In most cases, comparisons include a minimum of 10 metropolitan areas, allowing the report to incorporate the most complete and reliable data available while maintaining a consistent analytical framework.

Relative to peer regions, Tampa Bay frequently appears in the middle of the pack, demonstrating areas of strength alongside persistent challenges in translating growth into broad-based economic security.

Education and Opportunity

Comparisons with peer regions suggest that while Tampa Bay offers accessible educational pathways in some areas, gaps remain in aligning education with evolving labor market needs and in ensuring equitable access to opportunity across communities.

Quality of Life

Quality of life indicators provide a people-centered perspective on how regional conditions are experienced in daily life. Measures related to foundational stability, housing affordability, and daily functioning point to increasing pressures associated with cost of living, housing access, and essential supports, even as the region continues to attract population growth. These indicators underscore the importance of examining affordability, access, and stability alongside economic growth when assessing regional well-being.

Taken together, the findings in this report illustrate a region that continues to grow and evolve while facing familiar challenges related to affordability, inclusion, and uneven access to opportunity. By grounding discussion in shared data and comparative context, the State of the Region E-Insights report aims to support informed dialogue and provide a common factual foundation for understanding regional conditions and trends.
