Percentage of Single Person Households

  • Tampa Bay’s share of single-person households has remained relatively stable over the decade, shifting only slightly from about 28–29% in the early 2010s to about 30% by 2024.
  • St. Louis, Minneapolis, Denver, and Seattle display the highest and most persistent levels of single-person households, often exceeding 32–36%. These metros typically reflect older urban cores, more renters living alone, and higher concentrations of single-resident housing patterns.
  • Austin, Raleigh, Dallas, and Houston consistently show some of the lowest single-person household rates, generally ranging between 23–27%. These regions tend to have younger family-oriented demographics, strong job-driven in-migration, and higher proportions of multi-person households.
